Bess Elementary youngsters gathered 1,686 food items for the Salvation Army. Amy Tippetts fifth-grade class won the school contest with 279 items, followed by Alisha Canns kindergartners with 150 items and Angie Sellers first-grade class with 144 items. Harkey shared the story of the Battle of Ramsours Mill that occurred in Lincolnton and its significance in the Revolutionary War. He also brought several articts to show students what life was like during that time.
